On Sunday, January 9, 2011, Mabel Dorothy "Dot" Barber passed away peacefully after a brief illness. She was born in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, on February 23, 1924. Mabel was one of three children born to the late Josie Violet and Frank Enghram and was preceded in death by her brother, William Edward Enghram and sister, Frankie Marie Cummings.
Mable received her education in the public schools of Bartlesville, Oklahoma. She moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma and found employment in the housekeeping department at St. John Hospital. She retired from St. John's after 38 years of service.
During her childhood, Mabel and her family attended Bethel A.M.E. Church in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. After moving to Tulsa, she was a faithful member of Vernon Chapel A.M.E. Church before becoming a member of St. Paul A.M.E. Church.
Mabel is survived by a daughter, Ann C. Johnson, Tulsa, Oklahoma; two grandchildren, Sterling E. Johnson, Kansas City, Kansas and Charmaine R. Johnson, Atlanta, Georgia; a niece, Barbara J. Jones, Atlanta, Georgia; a nephew, Andrew Billups, Jr., San Francisco, California; close cousins, Harrison, Joe Benny and LaDonna and a host of other relatives and friends.
