Celeste Gladys Roubedeaux was born the daughter of Frank Grant and Fannie Moore Grant on Aug. 1, 1921, in Red Rock.
She passed from this life on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012, at her home, having reached the age of 91 years, two months, and 27 days.
She married Joseph Richard Roubedeaux on March 18, 1946, in Winfield, Kan. and he preceded her in death on July 4, 2000. They lived in Ponca City for 10 years and then moved to California for 27 years before moving back to Red Rock. She was affiliated with Otoe Baptist Church, First Born Native American Church, and the Otoe War Mothers Chapter 14.
Celeste and Richard were two of the founding members of Southern California Indian Center, and Celeste and her family were part of the First Native American Indian Performers at Disneyland and Knotts Berry.
She is survived by two daughters, Nancy Roubedeaux of Lake Elsinore, Calif., and Lynn Etta Vasquez of Red Rock; five sons, Richard Roubedeaux of Pawnee, Frank Roubedeaux of Red Rock, Dennis Grant of Pawnee, Mike Cornell of Tonkawa, and Jade Roubedeaux of Red Rock; 15 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, plus a number of other relatives, and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; daughter, Ivan Caroll; son, Jody Ray; two grandsons, Justin Roubedeaux and Joey Roubedeaux; and great-grandson, Sebastian Roubedeaux.
A service will be held at noon, Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012, at the Otoe-Missouria Cultural Building, Red Rock, with Joe Dent officiating. Burial will be at Cleghorn Cemetery, Red Rock, under the direction of Poteet Funeral Home, Pawnee.
