Gene Autry — Funeral services for Florine H. Wooten-West, 78, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 8, 2011, at the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church with Rev. Kirk D. Rushing officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Cheek-Love Cemetery.
Family visitation will be held Thursday, January 6, 2011, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home and Crematory.
Florine was born to Harold Wooten and Essie Douglas on March 14, 1932, at Ardmore, Oklahoma, and lived here most of her life. She had attended Douglass High School and the Oklahoma Technology Center for her CMA. Her soul took flight Wednesday, December 29, 2010, from Mercy Memorial Health Center of Ardmore.
She began her walk with the Lord at a very young age, and was baptized at the Sunrise Baptist Church. She grew up attending Sunday School, Bible study and Mission. Florine always glorified God for giving her the vision and the ability to do the many things she did for others; she always gave of herself.
She also held memberships in the Corinth Baptist Church and Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, which was her home. She sang in the choirs, worked with the youth department and worked in the kitchen. At Mount Pleasant, Florine was over the culinary committee.
She loved to cook; her love for food was from her heart and soul. She worked in the community and with numerous organizations. Subsequently, she worked at The Gourmet for many years and also Western Hills, where she retired as a cook.
Her parents, a son, Jesse Charles Cavins III, a daughter, Ruby Jewel McVay, and three husbands, Glen Deaver Smith Jr., Jesse Charles Cavins Jr., and John West preceded her in death.
She leaves to cherish her memory a daughter, Sidney Stoughtenborough of Ardmore; two sisters, Annilisa Peevy and Dawn Marie Stubblefield and her husband, Kelly of Ardmore; two brothers, Harold Wooten Jr., and his wife, Christine, Seattle, Washington, and Norman L. Wooten of Santa Cruz, California; a special sister, Thressia Stevenson and three special sons and daughter, Ray Melton, Marice Patton, Jesse and Alma Lyons of Ardmore; grandchildren, Nina Coleman and husband, Byron, Houston, Texas, Rikki Stoughtenborough and husband, Greg Hawkins, Sacramento, California, Nicholas A. Stoughtenborough and wife, Jacy of Tulsa, and Glenn Deaver Stoughtenborough, Ardmore; great-grandchildren, Byron and Nathan Coleman, Houston, Texas, Christopher, Stevie and Greg Hawkins, Sacramento, California, Nicholas Stoughtenborough Jr., and Olivia Stoughtenborough of Tulsa, Erica Stoughtenborough of Denton, Texas, and Jaden Glenn Stoughtenborough of Ardmore; great-great-grandchildren, Rikki and Chryssia Hawkins of Sacramento, California; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; and her special family at Elmbrook Nursing Home.
Honorary casket bearers include the members of the Mount Pleasant Brotherhood and flower bearers will be the members of Mount Pleasant Missionary.
Florine lived her life to the fullest. She was warm, kind natured and always had a wonderful smile and kind word for all, no matter the situation. She is and will be remembered and missed by everyone's life she touched.
