Bedford Cleo B. C.' Cook of Calvin, Oklahoma, passed away in Shawnee on the evening of Sunday, December 16, 2012, at the age of 89 years. B. C. was the son of James William & Anna May (Davis) Cook, born on September 19, 1923, in Bear Flats, Oklahoma. He was brought up in Calvin and the surrounding area, and attended schools at Calvin and Hilltop. He married Nadine Doris McDonald at Hilltop on April 20, 1943. He joined the U.S. Army and served during World War II under both General Bradley and General Patton in the European Campaign, and participated in the famous Rhine River Crossing. Following military service he returned to Calvin, where he and Doris made their home all of their lives. B. C. was a farmer and rancher all his life, and worked for the McAlester State Penitentiary for 25-1/2 years, retiring in 1985. His favorite hobby was searching for treasure. He enjoyed using his metal detector to discover all kinds of interesting things, and was well known for helping numerous people recover lost valuables. He loved digging for gold, and finding honey-bee trees. He was always delighted to simply sit and visit with people, and talk about everything. His passing has left an empty space in our hearts and homes, and he will be missed. He is preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife of 64 years, Doris; one son, Larry Eldon Cook in 1994; one grandson, Kenneth Larabee in 2009; five brothers: W. T. Cook, L. C. Cook, Doyle Cook, Don Cook, and Ronald Gene Cook. Funeral services with Veteran's Rites will be Friday, December 21, 2012, 2:00 p.m. at the Calvin School Auditorium, and B. C. will be laid to rest in the Blue Ridge Cemetery south of Calvin. Pallbearers are Steve Cooper, Lewis Carpitcher, J. P. Lucy, Ancil Bennett, Steve Carter, and Jim Lively.
