PANHANDLE, April 13 (Special) - A Panhandle-wide search for the slayer of A.L. Brake, whose bullet riddled body was found in a barrow pit north of here yesterday, this morning centered around Perryton where the slain man's automobile was reported to have been located.

Officers in charge of the case left here this morning for Perryton after it was reported to them that a car fitting the description of Brake's auto had been found wrecked at the Beaver River bridge north of Perryton.

The location of the wrecked car tallied with the general direction which the slayer is believed to have taken. A young man, driving a car answering the description of Brake's vehicle, was questioned early Monday morning by a Spearman night watchman. The man, described as being about 20 years old, weighing 140 pounds, having a large nose, and wearing a dark suit and hat, thumbed a ride with a mail carrier, who he persuaded to return to the former's stalled automobile and push it to start the motor.

The 28-year-old slaying victim was found yesterday morning 10 miles north of here on the Panhandle-Borger Highway. Six bullets had penetrated his head. The body was covered with a blanket.

Identification was established here last night by Harve Reddick of Phillips, who had known Brake for a number of years, and was confirmed by the victim's father, M.G. Brake of Beaver, Okla.

Brake's body was taken to Perryton last night where funeral services are pending.

Survivors include his wife and three children, Georgia Maggie Lee, 8 years old, Abner Lee, Jr., six years old, and Sanford Lewis, three years old of Perryton; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. M.G. Brake, of Beaver; seven brother [sic], G.A. of Perryton, T.A. of Dodge City, Kan., C.D., L.B. and Theo of Declo, Idaho, D.C. of Pamona [sic], Calif., M.G. who is in the army in California; and four sisters, Mrs. Viola Cooper of Beaver, Mrs. Ona Mahoney of Gray, Okla., Mrs. Alice Day of Pomona, Calif., and Miss Betty Lou Brake of Declo, Idaho.
