Buried in the Claybrook Plot
Funeral services for Mrs. Martha Eleanor CARTER, age 87, pioneer Beaver County woman were held at Bethany, Beaver County, October 4. Services were conducted by Rev. Ralph A. Durham, Perryton. Burial was in the Bethany cemetery.
Bro. and Mrs. Bob Palmer rendered several vocal numbers, accompanied by Mrs. Roy Wooster at the piano. In charge of arrangements was Lynn Merrett of the Goodner Funeral Home, Beaver.
Pallbearers were a grandson, four grand sons-in-law, and a friend. They were: Richard Coburn, Jim Randles, Earl Lowe and Robert Mason, all of Hardesty, Okla.; glen Climer, Poteet; and Howard Trimmil, Boyd, Okla.
Martha Eleanor PATTERSON was born August 28, 1858, near Sweet Springs, Saline County, Mo., and departed this life October 1, 1945, at the age of 87 years, one month and four days.
She united with the Methodist church in early life and lived a consistent Christian life for over 60 years, attending church regularly as long as her health permitted.
February 3, 1881, she was united in marriage to Richard S. CARTER. They soon moved to Dade County, Mo., near Greenfield where their seven children were born: Wm. A., Emma, Minnie and Grace passed away in 1902, and Bradley, a World War I veteran died April 4, 1930.
In 1896, Mrs. CARTER with her children went to Archer County, Texas, near Holliday to make their home. In March 1904, she and her two brothers, Ed and Will PATTERSON came to Beaver County in a wagon, and filed on claims, and moving there six months later. Mrs. CARTER has lived on her homestead almost continuously since, making her home with her daughter, Mrs. Ed CLAYBROOK, the first few years.
She leaves to mourn her passing: three children, Wm. A. CARTER, Hardesty, Okla., and Mrs. H. W. GATES, Poteet, Texas; thirteen grandchildren; two brothers, Price S. PATTERSON, Miami, Fla.; Wm. N. PATTERSON, Roseville, Calif.; and one sister, Mrs. Sophie RANKIN, Loomis, Calif.
She was a kind and loving mother and a friend to all. To know her was to love her and she will be greatly missed.
