MELVIN DONALD CRYER
Melvin Donald Cryer was born September 27, 1927 in Boise City, Oklahoma. He entered into eternal rest on April 10, 2011 at the age of 83.
He was raised fifteen miles southeast of Boise City. Melvin and his siblings rode to school at the Union Chapel school. Later he attended Plainview and Boise City Schools.
Melvin was drafted into the Army in 1951. He went to school in Japan and received his Med Tech Certificate. He served his country honorably during the Korean Conflict and for this he received the Korean service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars and the UN Service Medal. Melvin went on to serve five more years in the Army Reserves.
Melvin was united in marriage to Lia Zupanicic on December 7, 1968. They were married for 37 years and were blessed with two children. Melvin and his family lived on a ranch seven miles east of Felt, Oklahoma. He enjoyed being outdoors. Many times he would be on the 4-wheeler checking the cows of just out walking.
Besides working on the ranch, he worked for Cimarron County District #1, where he retired in 1992.
Melvin was a God-fearing man and a believer in the Messiah. Many times he took his family to church in Amarillo, Texas and Liberal, Kansas, but he also went to home groups as well.
Melvin was preceded in death by his wife Lia Cryer, his parents James Thomas and Amelia (DeJarnett) Cryer, two brothers Ray Plummer and Jake Cryer, his sister Marjorie Sloan, two sister-in-laws, Ruby Plummer and Aleta Cryer, his niece Shirley Hutchison and his daughter-in-law Christie Cryer.
Survivors include; his son Michael and Leona Cryer of Felt, his daughter Eva and Jim Lawrence of Clayton, New Mexico, two brothers Marvin and Bonnie Cryer of Texhoma, Oklahoma and Vernon and Alma Cryer of Boise City, one sister-in-law Opal Cryer of Boise City, five grandchildren; Tiffany and Austin Lawrence of Clayton, New Mexico, Megan Alexander of Waco, Texas, Isaac and Westan Cryer of Felt, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be Thursday, April 14, 2011 at 10;30am at the Felt Baptist Church with Terrell Jones officiating. Interment will be in the Bertrand Cemetery. The family suggested memorials to the Panhandle Nutrition Center of Boise City, they may be left in care of the mortuary. Services by
