Richard Lopour, 71, of Fort Pierre, died Thursday, May 12, 2011, at the Golden Living Center in Pierre with his family by his side. Richard "Dick" Lopour was born on April 7, 1940 on a farm south of Gregory, SD, to John and Velma (Korton) Lopour. He was the middle of five children. He grew up in Gregory and attended Carlock Grade School and Gregory High School, graduating in 1959.
He met his wife Geraldine "Gerry" Hulce while attending school at Huron College, and they were married June 10, 1962. To this marriage there were four children born--Dori, Travis, Jackie, and Jared.
In 1963, Dick was drafted by the San Francisco 49'ers where he was later cut. He went back home to South Dakota and taught fifth grade in Presho before he and Gerry purchased a restaurant in Presho. Dick worked most of his life in the grain elevator business moving whenever an opportunity knocked.
He enjoyed fishing, coin collecting, gardening, football, and drawing. Dick is survived by his four children--Dori (Dwayne) Prince, Travis Lopour, Jackie Lopour, Jared (Sarah) Lopour; ten grandchildren--Kayla (Kyle) Kusek, Tanner Prince, Seth and Lexi Lopour, Dustin, Trevor, Courtney, and Austin Lopour, Rayna and Taylen Lopour; three great-grandchildren--Jerzye and Brayten Hall, and Finola Reuer; two step-grandchildren--Paige and Kyle Erickson; brother, Joe (Jean) Lopour; and sisters Carol (Eugene) Odenbach, and Bev (Ron) Blunn; thirteen nephews and two nieces; and sister-in-law Janet (Nelva) Louder.
He was preceded in death by his wife Gerry January 29, 2010; his parents; and his brother Bob Lopour.
Visitation will be from Wednesday, May 18, at Isburg Funeral Chapel with a Prayer Service Wednesday at the Chapel. Services will be Thursday, May 19, at the Gregory United Methodist Church with burial at Bohemian (Czech) National Cemetery in Gregory.
