Burial will follow at the Bohemian National Cemetery in Grgory. A prayer service will be held on Thursday evening at 7:30 PM at the church. VERA LUREE PAPOUSEK Vera Luree Papousek was born November 3, 1925 near Herrick, SD to Rudolph and Bertha (Ring) Willuweit and went to her eternal home on April 19, 2010 at the Avera Rosebud Country Care Center in Gregory, SD at the age of 84 years, 5 months and 16 days.
Vera was baptized at her parent's farmhouse near Herrick on November 22, 1925 and was confirmed May 28, 1939 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Jamison, Nebraska. She attended the Klug School in the Ellston School District in Gregory County through eighth grade where she consistently earned high grades, especially in reading and spelling. Vera chose not to go onto high school due to poor vision. She worked for several families before working as a nurse's aide in the Burke Hospital. Vera remembers getting eyeglasses with one of her first paychecks. She was united in marriage 61 years ago to Louis Papousek at the Grace Lutheran Church in Burke, SD on April 17, 1949. To this union , one daughter, Margo, was born one year later.
Throughout the years, Vera and Louie lived in Burke, Martin, and Winner, SD; Tucson and San Manuel, AZ; Inglewood, Hawthorne and Malibu, CA and Wall, SD; before returning to Gregory in 2001. Vera suffered strokes in 1996 and 2000. She entered the Avera Rosebud Country Care Center in 2005 and passed away there, after additional strokes.
Vera was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and supporter of her church. She wanted to make sure that her daughter had the best education possible by making sure that Margo got to school everyday from the first through twelfth grade no matter what the weather or traffic conditions were and that Margo's homework was done and checked. It was also important to her that her daughter should receive a good Christian education , so in addition to attending church and Sunday School every week, Vera faithfully drove Margo to and from Lutheran schools every day from seventh grade through high school. Later, she proudly spoiled her grandson, Sean, and served as his only babysitter.
Throughout the years, she managed the family's finances and was Louie's efficient bookkeeper and "office manager" during the years that he operated as an owner/operator of construction equipment in Inglewood, CA. During those years Vera also volunteered many hours at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Vera loved to sing and had a beautiful voice. Her family especially remembers her accompanying the radio while doing chores or in the car, singing hymns in church, and singing along with the Avera nursing home staff. She liked to keep her mind active by reading, playing card games, and doing crossword puzzles. Vera and Louie enjoyed visiting with their family and friends and traveling. In addition to visiting their daughter and her family in Malibu, CA, their trips through the years included many various vacation spots ranging all the way from the Butchart Gardens in Vancouver, Canada to Cape Canaveral and the Epcot Center in Florida.
Vera was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Ervin Willuweit.
