Bertha May Anderson was born May 27, 1908 to Thomas and Rachel (Dunning) Wadsworth in Opdahl Township, Hamlin County, SD.

Bertha attended grade school in Opdahl Township until the age of 13 when she and her parents moved into Bryant. She then graduated from Bryant High School. She attended Eastern State Normal College (Dakota State University). Bertha then taught rural school in the Clark and Hamlin Counties. She married Palmer Anderson on Sept. 16, 1937 at Huron, SD. The couple then made their home in Bryant. Bertha worked at the Wards Store for 17 years until her retirement. Palmer died in 1991.

Bertha was baptized at Union Congregational United Church of Christ in Bryant. She became a life-long member for 72 years. This earned her the status as the most years of membership in the congregation. She also held several positions for the church over the years.

Grateful for having shared her life are her son, Dale and wife, Emily Anderson, Los Gatos, CA; 2 daughters, Avis Johnson, Cuyahoga Falls, OH, and Wanda and husband George West, Brookings, SD; 6 grandchildren, Cleland and wife Etsuko Johnson, Valerie, Valecia, Heather West, Julie (West) Hanson and husbarnd Donald; Patrick and wife Teri West, and Matthew Hanson; 3 sisters-in-laws; Myrtle Lundquist, Irene Nelson, and Emily Anderson, several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two sisters, one brother, and one grandchild.
