Mrs. Ruby Jewell Flowers Crofford, age 88, of Dalton, Georgia, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Saturday afternoon, November 26, 2011 at the local hospital. Jewell was born January 12, 1923 in Murray County, Georgia, a daughter of the late Joseph Walker and Myrtle Mae Parker Gallman. She was also preceded in death by her husbands, Luke Thomas Flowers and Forrester Crofford, her brother, Roy Gallman and sisters, Edna Corbin and Annie Mae Corbin.
Jewell was a pioneer in the chenille bedspread industry and was the owner and operator of C & F Chenille Company. She was a member of the Center Point Baptist Church. She was known for her ruby red lipstick, her red nail polish and her home remedies. She was a wonderful cook and loved to feed people, loved playing bingo and spending time with her grandchildren whom she loved dearly. Jewell never complained and would tell her granddaughter when she was feeling bad to "put a little red lipstick on, it will make your feel better". Most of all Jewell was a precious Mother, Grandmother, Great-grandmother, Sister and a friend to all who crossed her path in life.
The family would like to say a special "Thanks" to all of the staff and doctors at Hamilton Medical Center, Hamilton Hospice, North Georgia Home Health Care and everyone who helped Jewell and our family during her illness.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda Couch, Georgia and Rodney Harkins, Maxine and Gerald Brackett; son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Joyce Flowers all of Dalton, GA; grandchildren, Sandi Couch, Jason Harkins, Katie and David Bean, Scott Brackett, Donna and Matt Finney, Lisa and Mike Sloan; great-grandchildren, Zach Finney, Meg Finney, Luke Sloan, Will Sloan and Autum Padgett; several nieces and nephews.
