Mrs. Carrie Bowman, wife of A.M. Bowman, died at her home in Rochford, SD, Wednesday, October 6, 1915, of complication of diseases, due to old age, being seventy-seven years old. Mrs. Bowman was taken sick on New Year's Day, 1915, and has been confined to her bed most of the time since. Medical aid was secured and everything possible done to try and restore her health, but nothing seemed to help. Her daughters took her to their homes in Lead, and also here in Rochford, thinking the change might be a benefit, but she gradually grew worse till the morning of September 28 she seemed much weaker, and all her children were sent for. Grandma Bowman as she was commonly called, was unconscious the last few days, thus spared the knowledge of her suffering. At the time of death, she was surrounded by her husband and daughters.
Carrie Benckson was born in Sweden, April 16, 1838. She came to America in 1869, and was married to A.M. Bowman February 14, 1870, in Fort Calhoun, Nebraska, coming to Rapid City in 1886.
They moved to a ranch three miles west of Rochford in 1893, where they lived till a year ago, when they disposed of their ranch and moved to Rochford.
There was born to Mr. and Mrs. Bowman five children, who still survive. They are: John Bowman, Mrs. Alice McInerney, Mrs. Frank Seyhers, Mrs. W.C. Rector, all of Lead, SD, and Mrs. J.W. Lapp, of Rochford, SD; also three grandchildren, Paul McInerney, LeRory Seyhers, and Bessie Rector.
Mrs. Bowman was a kind, loving Christian woman with scores of friends, and she will be greatly missed in our community.
She will be laid to rest in the Bell Park Cemetery Friday afternoon, October 8, 1915. The sympathy of the entire community is extended to the sorrowful husband, son, and daughters. in this, their darkest hour, grieving for the loss of the wife and mother, who has departed from this world to a better land above.
