ROCHFORD- Services for Lyle O. Barker, 78, will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Rochford Chapel with the Rev. Arthur Bailey of Lead officiating. Burial will be in the Rochford Cemetery under direction of Daniel Funeral Home, Lead.

Barker died Wednesday afternoon at the home of a daughter in Richland, Wash., following a lengthy illness.

He was born Dec. 9, 1896 in Winterset, Iowa to Ellis and Jessie Barker. He moved at age six with family members to Mystic and attended schools in that area.

He joined a U.S. Army calvary unit in 1917 and,after returning from World War I service, married Beatrice Walker, Aug. 8, 1921 in Deadwood. He worked in timber in the Rochford area until 1926 when they moved to Big Sandy, Mont., to operate a general store and ranch until 1931. They then returned to Rochford where they operated a service station, the post office and a ranch until retirement.

He was a member of Hill City Senior Citizens, Historical Society and American Legion Post 12 and had served on Rochford School District 6 board for many years.

Surviving are eight children. Mrs Delvin (Peggy) Mason, Lead; Mrs. Emily Harvey and Mrs. Jessie Nelson, Richland, Wash.; Gene, Hill City; Mrs. Ed (Barbara) Griffin, Otter Rock, Ore.; Mrs. LeRoy (Beverly) Howey, Deerfield; Mrs. William (Beatrice) Potratz, Chicago, and Mrs. Gary (Sharon) Frohme, Fountain, Colo.; also a brother, Roy, Rochford, sister, Mrs. Bessie Wolf, Spearfish, 34 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 1969, two brothers, three sisters and three grandchildren.

A memorial is established to the Hill City Seniors Citizens Center.
