Confederate Veteran, 84 Years of Age, Dies at Home Near Harmony—Funeral at Holly Springs Church Wednesday Afternoon.
Mr. Leander Barnard, veteran of the Civil War, 84 years of age, passed away Tuesday [Mar. 6, 1928] morning at 4 o'clock at his home near Harmony. Mr. Barnard had been in declining health for some time, on account of the infirmities of age, but had been confined to his bed for only about a week previous to his death.
The remains were laid to rest at Holly Springs church Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock.
Mr. Barnard volunteered for service in the Civil War in April, 1861, and served for four years and eight days in behalf of the Lost Cause. He was not wounded in any of the battles through which he passed.
The widow, who was before her marriage Miss Catherine Padgett, of Turnersburg Township survives, and three children: Mrs. C. C. Tharpe, of Harmony; Mrs. Amelia Paris, of Cleveland; and Mr. W. E. Barnard, of LaFollette, TN.
