Funeral Services were held Tuesday, February 22, 1972 at 2 pm in the United Methodist Church in Gary for Mrs. Marietta Thomas, 8, who died Friday at her home.
The Rev. James Vos and the Rev. James Torbert officiated and burial was in Grandview Cemetery. Voigt-Livingston Funeral Home of Canby was in charge of arrangements.
The organist Mrs. Robert Gage accompanied the soloist Mrs. Harry R. Olsen, she sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "How Great Thou Art."
Paulbearers were Robert Gage, Harold Shepherd, Robert Winrow, John Denekamp, Earl Jones, and Ralph Harkins.
Mrs. Thomas was born April 11, 1886, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Washburn at Goodwin.
She married Charles R. Thomas November 15, 1911, in Goodwin. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Gary, SD. They lived in Goodwin, Toronto, Brandt, Iowa, and Marietta, Minn., Revillo and Strandburg before moving to the Gary area in 1939.
She was past president of the Gary American Legion Auxiliary and Past Noble Grand of the Rebekah Lodge here.
Survivors include three sons, Theodore and Roy, both of Gary, and Shelby at home; four daughters, Mrs. Albert (Pearl) Krause, Altamont, Mrs. Robert (Ruth) Banwarth, Hyattsville, Md.; Mrs. Elmer (Jean) Hinsvark, Gary, and Mrs. Ward (Mary Ann) Shepherd, Gary; one brother Selden Washburn, Goodwin, and two sisters, Hattie Washburn, Goodwin, and Mrs. Rose DeVine, Watertown; 29 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in Death by her parents, husband, one son Wallace, 3 sisters and 2 grandchildren.
