Cleo Coker

Former school teacher Cleo Coker, Tecumseh, died Thursday at the age of 86.

Mrs. Coker was born Jan. 27, 1910, in Tecumseh to Van and Leona (Hamman) Dawson and was reared in the New Hope Community. She graduated from Tecumseh High School in 1927, graduated from East Central University and earned her masterís degree from Oklahoma Baptist University.

She married Glen D. Coker on June 19, 1935, in Shawnee and moved to a farm near Tecumseh in 1940. Mrs. Coker taught school for 44 years, including West Valley View, New Hope and Tecumsch.

She was a member of the Oklahoma Education Association; the National Education Association since its inception; the Tecumseh B&PW Club; a member of West Valley View Home Demonstration Club; active in 4-H Club and a member of the New Hope Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Ken Harper of Albuquerque, N.M.; three sons and daughters-in-law, Darrell D. and Elaine of Shawnee, Kent and Shelly of Golden, Colo., Richard and Margot of Dallas, Texas; her grandchildren, Amanda and Andrew Harper of Albuquerque, N.M., Steve Coker of Shawnee, Avery Coker of Dallas, Texas; and a great-granddaughter, Brittney Coker of Tecumseh.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Glen D. Coker., on Jan. 22, 1976; a sister, Lynna Butler and a grandson, Craig Coker.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at Cooper Funeral Chapel with the Rev. John Coker officiating. Burial will be at the New Hope Cemetery. The casket will remain open until service time and will not be reopened.
