Lois Loudell (Trenton) Coffman was born Feb. 26, 1943, in Enid. At age seven, she accepted Jesus as her Savior and moved to her new home in Heaven on Oct. 17, 2009. Lois married Carl Coffman at Bethel-Hawley Baptist Church near Nash on June 28, 1963, and they have lived in the Shawnee area since that time.
Lois taught two years at McLoud Public Schools before choosing to stay home with her children, Chris and Carla. She was an excellent seamstress and during her stay at home days, Lois sewed for the public having many satisfied and returning customers. When Carla was in the fourth grade, Lois returned to teaching and taught fifth grade math at Bethel Public Schools for 23 years before retiring in 1999. Twice recognized as Teacher of the Year, her love of teaching was only surpassed by her love of serving her Lord. She was a 1965 graduate of Oklahoma Baptist University.
At age 13, she began playing piano at Bethel Hawley Baptist Church and continued playing in various churches throughout her life. In later life, Alzheimer's disease robbed her of the ability to play, but she retained a sweet, sweet spirit recognized by all who knew her. Her love of music was a great comfort in her final days. She watched Bill Gaither DVDs by the hour and often hummed or sang along with them.
Her family was the focus of her attention, and she was most proud of her children and their families. She enjoyed watching Zack and Levi play basketball and fish. She loved the cards and drawings Cassie made for her and covered the refrigerator with them. For many years, Lois planned and hosted the Thanksgiving meals for as many as 20 to 30 family members. Lois also enjoyed traveling and visited all 50 states. In addition to being a member of Immanuel Baptist Church of Shawnee, she and Carl were members of the Sooner Model A Club in Oklahoma City. Together they restored a 1929 Model A Ford of which Lois was very proud.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Dean and Winifred Trenton, and her father-in-law and mother-in-law Broadus and Jewel Coffman, whom she loved dearly.
Lois is survived by her husband, Carl of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Vanessa Coffman of Bethel; a daughter and son-in-law, Carla and Loyal Smith of Bethel; three grandchildren, Zack, Levi, and Cassie Smith of Bethel; very special friends, Jerry and Merletta Bennett of Shawnee; her brother, Fred Trenton of Aurora, Colo; three sisters-in-law, Mary and George Kennedy of Midland, Texas, Rita and Dean Dombrosky of Port Arthur, Texas, and Laurie and Frank Dombrosky of Nederland, Texas; three brothers-in-law, Dale Coffman of Burns Flat, Kenny and Sandra Coffman of Alleyton, Texas, and Tony Coffman of Guymon.
She was loved by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends. She enjoyed visiting Carl's Aunt Ruth and Uncle Joy McMasters in Duncan, and cousin Brownie Reynolds in Comanche, with whom she developed a very close bond.
Celebration of life services will be 10 am Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009, at Immanuel Baptist Church, 1451 E. 45th St., in Shawnee, with Dr. Todd Fisher officiating. The family will meet friends at Walker Funeral Service Monday, Oct. 19, 2009, from 6-7:30 pm.
