Arden Franklin Achenbach was born, the son of Abner and Alice Schlampp Achenbach on Wednesday; November 30, 1921 in Cedar Bluffs, Cedar County, Iowa. On Thursday; June 6, 1946 in Anamosa he was united in marriage to Carlyn Barnes. They would be married for 58 years on Tuesday; June 6 of this year. Arden served in the US Amy Air Corps during WWII from Friday; November 27, 1942 until Tuesday; October 30, 1945. He was a former mayor of Morley and served many years on the Morley Volunteer Fire Department. He belonged the Knight of Pythias for over 50 years and he was a member of the American Legion Arthur McCullough Post No: 13 of Anamosa for over 50 years. Soon after marriage, Arden owned and operated the DX filling station in Morley, as well as owned and drove a school bus for the Morley Consolidated School. Starting in 1952 he owned and operated the Arden Achenbach Livestock Trucking Business for over 40 years. He built up his trucking business and took great pride in serving his loyal customers. During later years he weighed livestock at the Anamosa Livestock Auction and Mechanicsville Sale Barn. Arden especially enjoyed time that he spent with his good friend Eli Shada and playing cards with his friends at the Fawn Creek Country Club. Arden was the first livestock trucker to be inducted in the Jones County Cattleman Association's "Hall of Fame" in 2003. He'll be greatly missed by his family and friends. Military rites will be performed. Memorials donations may be made to the American Heart Association and to the Anamosa Public Library. Arden Franklin Achenbach (Artie) 82, passed away Monday; April 26, 2004 in University of Iowa Hospital and Clinic, Iowa City of complications from a traffic accident that happened on Thursday, April 22, 2004. His family was with him when he passed away. Those left to mourn his passing are his wife Carlyn and three sons, their wives and grandchildren. Gary and Jean Achenbach of Boone; Boone County, Iowa and their children, Brent (Julie), Sara and Brian; Carl and Mary Achenbach of Anamosa, Christi and Daniel; Randy and Rhonda Achenbach of Monticello; Jones County, Iowa Rochelle and Reed. Two great grandchildren, Jordyn and Bryce Achenbach, children of Brent and Julie Achenbach of Woodward. Two sisters, Helen (Lee) Hobel of Fayetteville; Washington County, Arkansas and Jean (Dean) Rekemeyer of Anamosa. Two brothers, (Abe) Alvin (Jeanette) Achenbach of Cedar Rapids; Linn County, Iowa and Allen (Tom) Achenbach of Anamosa. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, (Fuzz) Vernon Achenbach and two sisters, Joyce Steele and Darlene Achenbach; a sister-in-law, Colleen Achenbach and brother-in-law, Don Steele. Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 pm, Friday April 30, 2004 at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday; May 1, 2004 at Saint Paul's Lutheran Church, Anamosa by the Reverend Jerry Egel. Following the service Mr. Achenbach will be laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery in Anamosa; Jones County, Iowa. Memorials donations may be made to the American Heart Association and to the Anamosa Public Library.
