Ida was born in New York City, her parents' third child, and the last to be born in New York before the family moved to Bradford, Pennsylvania. At eighteen, in 1914, Ida married David Brantz (a Romanian immigrant who sold electrical equipment), and gave birth to a daughter, Evelyn (1915-1971) and a son, Willis (1916-1990).

After her father's death in 1919, Ida and her family moved home to live with her mother, Lena, and her brothers, Abe, Joseph and William at 20 N. Bennett Street in Bradford. Ten years later, at age thirty-three, Ida died. She was laid to rest in Bradford's Beth Israel Cemetery, near her father, Morris, and her younger brother, Willie.

At the time of her death, Ida's children were teen-agers; in 1930 David married Ida's niece, a teacher and linguist, Beatrice Ellison (Find A Grave Memorial #35933909).
