Carroll Laverne Blom was born on July 1, 1936, near Sully, Iowa. He was the fourth of six children that were born to Tunis and Jennie Roelofsen Blom. "Chuck", as he was known, graduated from the Sully Christian Grade School and the Sully High School in Sully. Chuck played football, basketball and baseball and excelled in Algebra, even to the level of teaching his fellow classmates. In January of 1958 he was drafted into the Army of the United States and honorably served on active duty until October of 1959. One significant memory of his military duty was that he had served with Elvis Presley at Fort Chaffee, Arkansas. Chuck then met Beulah Rose Vander Streek at a bowling alley and on December 22, 1961, they were united in marriage at the First Reformed Church Chapel in Pella, Iowa. One significant memory of their wedding day was a blizzard. Chuck and Beulah remained the best of friends. Chuck worked at the Sully Deep Rock Service Station in Sully and was a salesman for Snap-On Tools. He then became a tool and die maker and retired from the vending machine business in 1989. Chuck enjoyed his retirement and was productively busy. He was presently building model steam engines and displaying them at Old Threshers in Mount Pleasant, Iowa. Chuck was an active member of the Lions Club, attending many Lions Club functions across the United States and did a lot of pin trading. Most recently, Chuck found enjoyment in making door hangings for the manor apartments where he and Beulah were living. Chuck and Beulah enjoyed camping at the Iowa State Fair and traveling. They traveled throughout the 48 states and parts of Canada in their motor home. Recently they went Southwest for the winter where they were presently living in a mobile home. Chuck underwent unexpected heart surgery on February 21, 2008. at the Desert Springs Hospital in Las Vegas, Nevada and passed away there on Monday morning, February 25, 2008. He attained the age of 71 years, 7 months and 24 days. Those who will cherish his memory are his wife, Beulah; his two sisters and two brothers and their spouses: Evelyn V. and Paul Farnham of Gowrie, Iowa, Donna L. (Ivan) Kaldenberg, Marvin D. and Jo Ann Blom all of Pella, Iowa, Floyd E. and Lavonne Blom of Algona, Iowa; his sister-in-law, Elizabeth ( G. James) Blom of Pella; and the following sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Freda (Vander Streek) and Harold Spoelstra of New Sharon, Iowa, Norma (Vander Streek) and Harley Van Weelden of Pella; along with several nieces and nephews. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents: Tunis and Jennie Blom; his parents-in-law: John and Dirkie Van Zee Vander Streek; his brother, Guysbert James Blom and his brother-in-law, Ivan Kaldenberg. Chuck was baptized at the Sully Christian Reformed Church and made profession of his faith at the Sully Reformed Church in Sully, Iowa. At the time of his death he was a member of the Second Reformed Church in Pella, Iowa.
