October 15, 1921 Alton Democrat, Alton, Iowa
Seth Allen, for many years a resident of Maurice, died at his home in Kansas City Monday after several months illness. Death was due to ailments resulting from old age. The deceased was born in Edinboro, Erie County, Pennsylvania on August 28, 1832. He continued to live there and was married there to Miss Lavina Cummins to which union two sons were born. He was a member of the G. A.R. having served in the Union army from 1862 to the close of the war. After the end of the war he came to Sioux County and settled on a homestead southwest of Maurice. In later years, he moved to Maurice and here he was married to Mrs. Etta Hart, having been separated from his first wife. Mrs. Allen died in 1913 and Mr. Allen went to Kansas City where he has since made his home. He is survived by his sister, Mrs. C. A. Sherman, of Maurice and two sons, Dudley and Earl, both of Spencer, Neb. The remains were sent to Janesville, Ia. where funeral services were conducted and interment took place Thursday.
