Article from the Davenport Democrat & Leader, Sunday 27 May 1939 p. 2, on the occasion of her 83rd birthday:

"REMEMBERS WHEN PRINCETON WAS BOOMING
Princeton, Ia., May 27,--Mrs. Caroline Dennis who celebrated her 83rd birthday Friday recalls the time when there were more than 600 persons living in Princeton, and the town boasted a large barrel factory, flour mill, saw mill and no idle men.
'That was when I came to Princeton in 1864. We came from Troy, N.Y., where I was born, by rail to Davenport, and then stage coach to Princeton', recalls the lady who has lived in Princeton longer than any other woman.
She has a keen memory and dates of events in her family and the community come with ease. When asked what she missed most over the early days in Princeton, she said, 'I miss those side wheeler boats on the Mississippi as they were always a big show for the community.'
Mrs. Dennis does all her own house work at the age of 83 and finds time to do a great deal of reading, she has a hobby of raising flowers and said, 'I enjoy my family, my home, flowers and work.' She does some fancy quilt and rug work for a pastime.
With a keen memory which recalls back to days when she was three years old, Mrs. Dennis can give the history of Princeton from the boom days to the present times. She taught in rural schools and until recent years, had a large collection of newspaper clippings. These were later destroyed in fire at the Dennis home.
'We have taken the Democrat for many years, starting our first subscription in 1875 but prior to that time our folks took The Democrat so I guess we have been reading The Democrat in our homes ever since it was first published, 85 years ago,' continued Mrs. Dennis.
There are eight surviving children in the Dennis family and all of these remembered Mrs. Dennis on the anniversary as several were present for the birthday dinner Friday night."
