John Blom, 70, of Orange City, died Saturday, April 9, in the Orange City Municipal hospital following a heart attack.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, April 12, in the Trinity Reformed church of Orange City with Rev. N. Reck presiding. Burial was made in the Newkirk cemetery with the Van Etten funeral home in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were John C. Blom, Fred Blom, Alvin Blom, Petter Vander Wilt, Henry Plender and Robert Utech.
Mr. Blom was born September 7, 1889, on a farm near Sheldon. Following the death of his parents when he was six years old, he lived with his uncle and aunt.
On July 14, 1909, he was married to Miss Tillie Van Es. They farmed in the Orange City - Newkirk area for 35 years. In 1944 they retired to Orange City, and since then Mr. Blom had been engaged in the seed corn business.
Blom served as Holland township assessor for 24 years. He was a past president of the Newkirk school board, an elder in the Trinity Reformed church of Orange City, and past president of the Trinity Men's Brotherhood Society.
Survivors include the widow; three daughters, (Anna) Mrs. John Lyftogt of Newkirk, Alice at home, and (Edna) Mrs. Leon Roggen; one son, Peter of Orange City; and one brother, Henry of San Antonio, Texas. Also surviving are nine grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were one infant daughter, Thelma; three sisters, (Minnie) Mrs. Andrew Vander Stoep of Maurice, (Johanna) Mrs. William Van Der Wilt of Blaine, Wash., and (Hattie) Mrs. Roe Wright of Blaine, Wash.; and a brother, Cornie, of Newkirk.
