Mrs. NIC Cleveringa, the former Gertrude Jurink, was born may 1, 1890 near Newkirk to Mr. and Mrs. Hendrik Jurink. She attended the Newkirk church until Dec. 7, 1911 she married Nic Clevennga and they farmed near Boyden and attended the Reformed church at Boyden. They then moved near Hawarden and attended the First Reformed church of Sioux Center. In 1919 they moved to the Newkirk area where they then attended the Reformed church.
Mrs. Cleveringa was a faithful worker in the Women's Ladies Aid until she moved from her home in Newkirk to the Homestead in Sioux Center. Much of her life she attended Sunday school. She was ever interested in the church and missions.
The survivors are four children. Hester, Mrs William Peuse near Middleburgh, Henry of Jasper. Minn., Decna, Mrs. Henry De Boer of Brooking, South Dakota and James, living near Newkirk Also there are nine grandchildren and six greatgrandchildren, two sisters. Sena, Mrs. Cornie Rensink of Hospers and Hattie, Mrs. James Bosman of Hull, besides many relatives and friends.
Her husband and her parents, one sister Emma, Mrs. Bert Jacobs, and two brothers preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held at the Newkirk Reformed church on Wednesday, March 7, 1973 at the Newkirk Reformed church with the Reverend Clarence Van Heukelom officiating. Stanley De Haan sung Beyond the Sunset and Rock of Ages accompanied by Mrs. Audley Dolphon on the organ. Pallbearers were her grandsons, Dwane Cleveringa, Michael Cleveringa, Norman Cleveringa, James De Boer, John Peuse and Klaas Van Beek. Interment was in the Newkirk cemetery with arrangements by the Van Etten funeral home at Orange City.
