Orie Paul Braun, the son of Henry and Edith (Nichols) Braun, was born August 29, 1906 in Staples, Minnesota. Orie was united in marriage with Leona L. Kadera on June 2, 1936 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sumner, Iowa by Father John Fischer. Orie and Leona farmed in the Fredericksburg area. Orie retired from farming in 1970.

Orie's death occurred Saturday, June 21, 2008 at the Hillcrest home in Sumner, Iowa, from natural causes. He was one hundred and one years old. Orie was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sumner. He was also a member of the National Farmer's Organization and the Farm Bureau. Orie enjoyed crocheting, painting, playing cards, and dancing. He also enjoyed music and played the harmonica and concertina.

Orie is survived by his wife, Leona of Sumner; five children, Blaine (Christina) Braun of Elk Run Heights; Leland (Dody) Braun of Prairie City, Iowa; Garen (Carol) Braun of Marion; Arlene (Leonard) Schroeder of LaVernia, Texas; and Jenell (Betty) Braun of Round Rock, Texas; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-four great grandchildren; one brother, Leonard Braun of Chicago, Illinois; and one sister, Grace Hahn of rural Sumner, Iowa.

Orie was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Louis, Bill and Hank; and six sisters, Lizzie, Eva, Nora, Edith, Nettie, and Druzilla.
