IOWA CITY
John A. "Curly" Abbott, 85, of 921 Giblin Dr., died Saturday in Solon Care Center, Solon, following a long illness.
He was born June 17, 1904, in West Liberty, and married Inez Mae Wilson. After her death, he married Alice Welch. He then married Mildred Cooley. He then married Mildred Cook. All his wives preceded him in death. Mr. Abbott was a retired electrician for the University of Iowa.
Survivors include a son, John C., of Orlando, Fla.; a stepson, Donnie Shull of North Liberty; two stepdaughters, Martha Jean Sovers of Cedar Rapids and Marian Hendricks of Davenport; 10 stepgrandchildren and seven great-stepgrandchildren.
Private graveside services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Memory Gardens Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. George L. Gay's is in charge of arrangements.
