Dwight E. Barton was born on the family farm in Dallas Center on September 1, 1916. He graduated from Dallas Center High School in 1934 and attended Iowa State University. On March 15, 1942 Dwight married Edith Carol Wicks.To this union two sons were born.
Dwight spent his entire life farming the land he loved. Dairy cows and growing wheat were things he really enjoyed. He was a 4-H Leader, Sunday school teacher, and state secretary of the Iowa Farmers Union. He served as clerk of the district court for Dallas County for 17 years. During this time he served as President of the Iowa County Clerks Association.
Throughout his life gardening was a passion for Dwight. He especially enjoyed growing tomatoes, cabbage, roses, and lilies. He was a life member of the Des Moines Men's Garden Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Augusta Barton, his brother Albert S. Barton and his sister Frances Hoy.
Survivors include his wife, Edith; sons, Dwight L. Barton (Marilyn) of Cedar Rapids and Dwayne A. Barton (Cynthia) of Indianola; four grandchildren, John D. Barton (Hannah) of Seattle, WA, Nancy McNamara (Rich) of Roseville, MN, J. Michelle Barton of New York, NY, and David Barton (Melissa) of Adel; two great-grandchildren, Davis and Delaney Barton of Adel.
