Born to William Christian and Lydia Olive (Rinehart) Hagge in Beaver, IA. He graduated from Beaver High School. Wayne married Marie Mae Herridge on August 9, 1936. He was a merchant in his fathers store in Beave, IA, before going to work at the grain elevator in Beaver. They moved to Calumet, IA where he was the Quaker Oats Elevator manager. Later he was the manager at Cargill Elevator in Renwick, IA and then at Woolstock Elevator near Webster City, IA until retirement in April of 1979.

Wayne was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Chapter 114 and NW Iowa Coaches and Officials Hall of Fame. He was a member of the Asbury Methodist Church, in Webster City. Wayne was part of various school, church and community boards. He enjoyed playing golf, music, and swimming. He was a sports enthusiast, and was a football and basketball referee, and an umpire.
