She was the wife of John Kommes whom she married on Oct. 3, 1866 in Luxembourg. They immigrated to the U.S. in May 1885 and settled on a farm in Greeley Township, Audubon Co. where they lived until 1900 and then moved to Exira.
She and her husband had eleven children, seven whom died in infancy. Surviving are four sons:
Peter John Kommes, Carroll, Iowa
John P Kommes, LeMars, Iowa
Anthony Kommes, Howard, SD
Frank Kommes, Exira, Iowa
During WWI, she gained consideral prominence by knitting different articles for the American soldiers and had the distinction of knitting more socks than any other woman in Audubon County.
She is survived by her husband, John, her four sons, and a sister, Mrs. Anton Theil in Almina, Wisconsin.
