Helen M. Baiotto, 91, former Rubio resident died at 1:10 a.m. Tuesday, June 7, 2011, at Maplewood Manor in Keota. She was born May 9, 1920, in Knoxville, to Earl and Inella McDaniel Watkins. She attended Knoxville schools through grade school, then Pershing schools and graduated from Attica High School in 1937.
Helen married Paul Baiotto on July 30, 1941, in Des Moines. He died March 22, 2007. They lived in Des Moines, Union, and Bangor, Iowa before moving to Arnolds Park, where she and Paul lived, and served as pastors of the Arnolds Park Friends Church, for 29 years before moving to Rubio. She was a stay at home mother, pastor's wife, taught Sunday school, was the church secretary, pianist, and organist, raised her own family, her brother, Larry, two nephews, and many other children who needed help or a safe place to stay. Helen had been active in Arnolds Park Ladies Aid, Rubio Ladies Club, and helped organize and lead several kitchen bands both in Arnolds Park and Rubio. She retired in 1991.
Helen is survived by three daughters: Beth Miller of Boerne, Texas, Marilyn Cellamare and her husband Nino of Marion; Carol Long of Richland; three sons: Mike Baiotto and his wife Jacki of Staunton, Va; Chris Carey of Las Vegas, Nev; and David Carey of Tempe, Ariz; 10 grandchildren, six great grandchildren, three sisters: Eldred Toigo of Des Moines, Dorothy Dreyfus and Connie Snyder both of Arizona, and one brother, Don Watkins of Arizona. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers: Dave and Larry Watkins, one sister: Marilyn Bolton, and three grandchildren: Debbie Cellamare, Jason Carey, and Miranda Carey.
Funeral Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday June 9, 2011, at Trinity Friends Church with her daughter Carol and granddaughter Erin officiating. Burial was in Richland Friends Cemetery.
