Elna Mae Acuna , 71, of Chanute, Kansas, passed away Monday, November 8, 2004 at Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center in Chanute, Kansas.

She was born on March 27, 1933 in Dewey, Oklahoma, the daughter of Cecil Henry and Edna May (Rice) Burkart.

She received her GED from Garden City High School in 1981. After obtaining her GED she took correspondence courses toward becoming a private investigator.

She was united in marriage to Ronald Lee Acuna on March 17, 1956 in Wichita, Kansas. They moved to Chanute in 1997. He survives of the home.

She was a homemaker, landlord, notary public, crochet seamstress, and was an Avon salesperson.

She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church of Chanute.

She was actively involved with Native American heritage and holistic well-being. She co-founded several programs within the Shawnee County area.

She is survived by her husband, Ronald Acuna Sr., of the home; 3 sons and 4 daughters, a sister, sixty-plus grandchildren; and twenty-plus great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Clara Yavonne Cash; a step-son, Jonathan Miller; and a granddaughter, Mary Elizabeth Powell.
