Funeral services for Donald Arthur Beckman were held Saturday, Jan. 3, 1981, at First Congregational Church, Elkader, with the Rev. Ted Newton officiating. Burial was in the Communia Cemetery. Pallbearers were Art Pfrommer, Kenneth French, Harry Robbins, Leslie Coonfare, Leighton Bente, and Lawrence Fox.

Born November 8, 1916 in Cox Creek Township, Clayton County, Beckman was the son of Albert and Pauline Beckman. February 23, 1945 he married Betty Fox at the bride's home near Volga. He had farmed at the same place he was born until 1948 when he moved off the farm and hauled milk before working at the Ford garage in Elkader. In 1954 he went to work at Iowa Manufacturing in Cedar Rapids from which he retired in 1974 because of ill health. He and his family had moved back to the farm in 1963.

Beckman died January 1, 1981 at Central Community Hospital, Elkader, of complications from the flu following six years of ill health. He was a member of Union Local 831 International Association of Machinists and the First Congregational Church, Elkader.

Preceded in death by his parents, Beckman is survived by his wife Betty, two sons, Albert, Coggon; and David, Elkader; and one daughter, Cindee of Volga. Also five grandchildren.
