DONAHUE, Iowa -- Memorial visitation for Donald N. Claypool Sr., of rural Donahue, will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at Chambers & Sass Funeral Home, Eldridge. The body was cremated. Mr. Claypool died Thursday, Sept. 19, 2002, at his home. He was employed for 10 years as a kiln operator at Linwood Mining & Mineral Co., Buffalo. In earlier years, he was employed as a bus driver for the City of Davenport. He was born Feb. 18, 1923, in Davenport. He married June Burmeister in 1956 in Kahoka, Mo. During World War II, he served with the Navy aboard the USS President in the South Pacific. He received the World War II Victory Medal, American Area Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with three stars and Philippine Liberation Medal with one star. Memorials may be made to the family. Survivors include his wife, June; daughters, Mary Claypool, Morley, Mich., and Linda Briggs, Kathy Smiley and Susan Wendell, all of Davenport; sons, Don N. "Sonny" Jr., Dixon, Thomas R., Davenport, and John L. "Billy," Bloomington, Ill.; four grandchildren; and brother, the Rev. Edmond, Naperville, Ill.
