Rebecca Alina Schneider, daughter of Jacob and Rebecca Schneider was born October 12, 1884, in Woodford County, Illinois, and died at her home near Wakeeney, August 19, 1940. Her mother died dring her early childhood. She came to Kansas with her father and other relatives in 1895 where the family made their home on a farm eight miles south of Wakeeney.
In 1906 she married Jesse Wallace Ghumm. Nine children were born in the home. Three children, Joe, Lilie May, and Emma died in infancy. She has lived in this community for the past forty-five years. In 1936 she was united in marriage to Edwin H. Barber.
She leaves to mourn her going her husband; six children: Wm. Henry Ghumm, Mrs. Leona Ferne Staten of Wakeeney; John Wallace Ghumm of Keenesburg, Colorado; Ernest Warren, Noneyrea and Leroy of the home at Wakeeney; five brothers, Remus, John H. and Jacob Schneider of Wakeeney; Peter J. of Ransom and James of Lincoln, Nebraska; two sisters, Mrs. Gertrude Lohman who is just moving to Idaho, and Mrs. Anna Scherr of Frankfort, Illinois; her stepmother, Mrs. Jacob Schneider of Illinois; seven grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
Mrs. Barber was a kind hearted and loving mother, a helpful neighbor and friend.
