Freeborn Garrison Allis was one of the original settlers that arrived in the area of what was to become Virgil, Ks. Freeborn, Farmed in the Virgil area and he and his wife Catherine, helped with the organization of the Methodist Episcopal Church Society in 1865. Served as trustee of the church and Sunday School Superintendent. Was the County Superintendent of Public Instruction in 1866-67. Trustee of the Township, Road overseer and Clerk of the School Board, and for six years served as Justice of the Peace.
