Susan L. Armstrong, 38, Rural Wyandotte, passed into eternal rest at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, September 25, 2007 from injuries sustained in a automobile accident just east of Seneca.
Susan was born April 15, 1969 in Salinas, CA. She had lived in rural Wyandotte over 10 years and worked for McKees Bakery "Little Debbie's" in Gentry, AR.
Susan married William Armstrong September 21, 2001 in Delaware County, OK and he survives.
Additional survivors include one son, Michael Hawkins of the home; one daughter, Joanna Hawkins, Grove; one step daughter Jaime Armstrong, Vinita. Her Mother, Carolyn Brooks, Her father John Rolls
Step Mother Darlene Rolls and Step Father Glenn Bridgeman; One brother Waylon Rolls, Wyandotte and a host of family and friends.
Graveside services under the direction of Campbell-Biddlecome Funeral Home, Seneca will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, September 28, 2007 at the Council House Cemetery with Brad Helton officiating.
WOMAN KILLED AND TWO INJURED IN US 60 CRASH
A Wyandotte, Okla., woman was killed and two people were injured in a two-vehicle crash which took place at 1:45 p.m. Tuesday on U.S. 60, four miles east of Seneca near Copeland's Corner.
Susan L. Armstrong, 38, was pronounced dead at the scene by Lee Ireland, Newton County Assistant Coroner. Her body was taken to Campbell Biddlecome Funeral Home in Seneca.
Walter W. Stogsdill, 57, of Neosho, was seriously injured in the crash, while Kathern C. Hartwell, 28, also of Neosho, suffered moderate injuries. Both were taken to Joplin's Freeman West Hospital for treatment.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, an eastbound 1991 GMC van driven by Stogsdill lost control on the wet pavement, traveled across the center line and struck a westbound 2004 Chrysler van driven by Armstrong head-on.
"The white van had passed a couple of people and slid out of his lane and struck the silver van head-on," said state trooper Clinton Mason, one of the investigating officers at the scene. "People need to slow down when there's a wet road, or they'll get into a hydroplane situation."
Rain continued to fall as emergency personnel and witnesses cleared debris from the scene. One witness said he was glad he was going slow because of the rain.
"If we had been running 70, we would be right in the middle of it," he said.
A patrol report noted Armstrong was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash but her passenger, Hartwell, was not. It was unknown at press time if Stogsdill was wearing a seat belt.
