George Adam Amrein, age 85, of Ellis, passed away Tuesday March 22nd at his home. He was born August 16, 1925 in Liebenthal, Kansas to Alex and Margaret (Kippes) Amrein. He graduated from Ellis High School in 1944. George married Elizabeth Schuster on June 5, 1950 in Ellis.

He was a veteran of the US Army serving towards the end of WWII. He was discharged from the Army on May 30, 1947 with the rank of Private First Class. George was a lifelong Farmer and Rancher and also worked for the Soil Conservation District. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and a 3rd degree Ellis Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed playing pinochle and attending auctions throughout the area.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years Elizabeth of the home, three sons, Ron Amrein and wife Karen, Dean Amrein and Roy Amrein and wife Sandi all of Ellis; two daughters, Elaine Augustine and husband Randy of Hays and Arlene Riedel and husband Marvin of Ellis; two sisters, Rose Younger and husband Cletus and Isabella Sander all of Great Bend. 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren also survive him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Joseph Amrein; a daughter, Mary Amrein; a grandson, Eric Augustine and two brothers, John and Albert Amrein.

Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ellis with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery. Military Honors by the Ellis VFW.

Visitation will be Thursday 6:30 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ellis.

The Ellis Knights of Columbus will have a rosary service at 7:00 P.M. followed by a parish vigil service at 7:30 P.M. all at the church. Arrangements in care of Keithley Funeral Chapel 400 E. 17th in Ellis.

Contributions are suggested to St. Mary's Church.
