LYONS — Joseph L. Cedeno, 83, died Oct. 13, 2011 at Rice County District Hospital.
He was born Feb. 18, 1928 in Belle Plaine, the son of Jose L. and Refugio Leyva Cedeno. A lifetime resident of Rice County, having lived in Chase and Lyons, he was employed by Enron as a Ethane Plant operator and a bail bond agent for Aztec Bail Bonds. On June 10, 1950, he married Amelia A. Aguilera in Chase.
Mr. Cedeno served his county as a member of the U.S. Navy in World War II. He was a member of the St. Paul Catholic Church, former Church Council, Eucharistic Minister, Lector, Knights of Columbus Council 7422, 4th Degree Quivira Council, Kiwanis Club, life member and Past Commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, and National Rifle Association. He was a former Lyons City Councilman and Lyons Mayor.
Survivors include his wife, Amelia, of the home; three sons, Joseph G. and Sherri Cedeno, Lamar, Colo., John P. and Karen Cedeno, Great Bend and James M. and Cathy Cedeno, Lyons; a daughter Gerianne M. and Virgil Habiger, Bushton; a sister, Frances Morales, Hayward Calif.; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Michael and Pat Cedeno; and a sister, Cora Ojeda.
A funeral mass is scheduled at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Paul Catholic Church in Lyons with Father Robert Spencer officiating. Burial will be at the St. Marys Catholic Church Cemetery in Chase with Military Honors by the U.S Navy. Friends may visit from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Birzer Funeral Home in Lyons with family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m.. A Parish Rosary will follow at 7 p.m. by Knights of Columbus Rosary. Memorials are suggested to Hospice Care of Kansas or the donor's choice in care of the funeral home.
