The funeral for Eugene Aurand was Tuesday at 2 p.m., from the Megrue-Price Funeral Home Chapel. He died Saturday in the Superior Good Samaritan Center at the age of 92 years, 6 months and 28 days.
Eugene Raymond Aurand, one of six children, was born to Henry Clay and Cora Tucker Aurand, on a farm, rural Hardy, in Republic County, Kansas, Aug. 6, 1895.
He attended Rosemound country school and Big Bend country school, both in Republic County.
Nov. 11, 1917, he was married to Lelia Schnitker in Hardy.
He was a member of the school board and the Rosemound (sic) Cemetery board and past president of the Hardy bank.
An avid farmer-stockman, he devoted his entire life to hard work and its care. He had a great interest in antiques and had collected many to share and show to family and friends. In 1980, Mr. and Mrs. Aurand donated a quarter section of land, which was later sold at auction, and those funds were used to build the second building for the Nuckolls County Museum. It is so named Aurand Hall. He was also interested in the history of his family and genealogy and had done extensive research of the family for several generations.
He had lived his entire life on the family farm of his birth. Illness forced a move to the Superior Good Samaritan Center where he died.
Preceding him in death were his parents, an infant daughter, Orba, and three sisters, Lenora (sic) File, Atha Stenson and Frances Aurand.
Survivors are his wife of 70 years, Lelia; two sons, Ward and Glen of rural Hardy; two sisters, Mildred Steier of Superior and Bula Clark of Hardy; four grandchildren, Mrs. Greg van Rossum (Karen), Clay Aurand, Marilyn Aurand and Jana Aurand; two great grandchildren, Jeremy and Angela van Rossum; and many other relatives.
The Rev. Danny Jackson officiated at the services. Burial was in the Rosemound (sic) Cemetery, rural Hardy.
