James P. Allen II, 68, of rural Erie, died at 11:55 a.m., Friday, October 15, 2010 at the Via Christi Hospital in Wichita. He had been in failing health.
He was born on July 27, 1942 on the family farm north of Parsons to Jean Henry and Nellie Ruth (Hestand) Allen. He grew up on the family farm and attended Galesburg schools and then moved to Washington with his family to work with his uncle and graduated from Washtunca High School. He moved back to Neosho County where he worked at the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant and farmed.
He served in the United States Army reserves for 17 years. He was a true outdoorsman and enjoyed camping, fishing, and hunting. He also enjoyed photography and reading especially books about History. He loved spending time with his pets especially his dog, "Tanglefoot". He was a member of the First Christian Church of Parsons.
His survivors include his friends and caregivers, Sandy and Garry Thomas of Parsons; his aunt, Bessie Allen of Washtucna, WA; and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and two uncles, Amos and Floyd Allen.
Graveside services were held here on October 20, 2010.
