Graveside rites for Alice G. Brown, 97, will be Monday at 2:30 p.m., in the Hubbell Cemetery. She died Jan. 13 in Bokeelia, Fla., at the home of her granddaughter.
She was born Dec. 26, 1894, in Hubbell to O.D. Gooden and Sarah Elizabeth Callahan.
She lived in Hubbell where she received her education there and at Abilene. Before her marriage to O.F. (Frank) Brown, she taught school at Midway school south of Hubbell and the Hubbell Public School. She worked in family owned stores in Hubbell, Ruskin and Superior.
During World War II she worked in the commissary at Bruning and Salina Air Force bases. She was a member of the Easter (sic) Star for 79 years, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a member of the Methodist Church in Hubbell and later in Superior.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Frank, in 1989; one brother; and three sisters.
She is survived by one son, Robert J. Brown, Bokeelia, Fla., seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
The Williams Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
