HOISINGTON--Joseph W. "Joe" Beran, 71, Odin, died Saturday, May 6, 2000, at a Hoisington hospital.
He was born Aug. 16, 1928, in Larned, to Anton A. and Hattie Prosser Beran, and spent many years in Odin in Barton County. He was a farmer and stockman and formerly owned the Odin Store. He played professional baseball with the Brooklyn Dodgers and Pittsburgh Pirates organizations from 1946 to 1953.
He served in the Army during the Korean War.
He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and the choir at the church in Odin. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council No. 2630 in Odin and the American Legion in Great Bend.
Survivors include three brothers, Gerald, Odin; Lee, Emporia; and Tony, Aurora, Colo.; and two sisters, Vi Dice, Colorado Springs, and Alice Dolechek, Claflin.
Services will be at 10:30 a. m. Tuesday at Holy Family Catholic Church in Odin. VFW and the Am. Legion will conduct graveside services at Holy Family Catholic Cemetery in Odin.
