John Steven Bartkoski passed away unexpectedly on April 5, 2013.
He was born October 25, 1950, to Steve and Josephine (Globoke) Bartkoski.
He grew up in Christ the King parish and graduated from Bishop Ward High School in 1968. He attended Donnelly College, and received an associate's degree from Kansas City, Kansas Community College. A loyal Jayhawk fan, he graduated with a BS in Business from the University of Kansas in 1972. He also received a degree in Computer Science from St. Mary's in Leavenworth.
During his career in accounting he worked for McCall Patterns, International Paper Co., Standard Motor Products, Champ Service Line Division and B.S. Steel of Kansas. He was also a graduate of Wyandotte County's Leadership 2000 Program.
An active member of Holy Angels parish, he was their accountant for 15 years.
He married his wife DeAnn Trowbridge September 27, 1975. His devotion to his wife was present by the simple rose he brought to her weekly for many years. A dedicated husband and father, he loved his new role of grandfather. He found great joy in participating in his children's lives sitting in the stands at sporting and theater events.
John was known as someone who was always willing to help people or animals. A man who relished being with family and friends, he believed no one was a stranger. He cherished being the master chef at his family's annual New Year's Day Shrimpfest and 4th of July celebrations. He always encouraged his family by saying, 'Don't sweat the small stuff'. Although he could find levity in nearly any situation, he was ready with a hug when he couldn't.
John was preceded in death by his parents.
John is survived by his wife DeAnn of the home, his children Nicholas Bartkoski, PhD (Jennifer) Norman, OK; Katie Bartkoski, Basehor; Matthew Bartkoski, Basehor; Steven Bartkoski (Rachel) Mission; Elizabeth Bartkoski Kansas City, MO; Amelia Bartkoski, Roseburg, OR; and one grandchild, Bruce Bartkoski.
A celebration of his life will be at Holy Angels Catholic Church, 15440 Leavenworth Road, Basehor, KS where he was a member for 38 years. Visitation will be at the Holy Angels Chapel on Tuesday, April 9 from 5-8 PM, Rosary at 6:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 AM on April 10. Interment in Holy Angels Cemetery.
