JAMES MONROE ALLEN
John Monroe Allen was born in Bath County, Kentucky, March 27, 1853, and departed this life at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ollie Green, Kansas City, Mo., August 17, 1940, aged 87 years 4 months and 20 days.
He was married to Vina Purcell, Trenton, Mo., in 1874, and to this union eleven children were born. In 1900, he moved to Kansas and located in Lyon and Greenwood Counties.
In middle life he became a member of a rural Christian Church near Blythedale, Mo. He was a good citizen and helpful neighbor.
His kind, sweet disposition won many friends. He was patient, in his suffering and came to the end of his earthly life in peace.
He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Ollie Green, Kansas City, Mo., Mrs. Gussie Markley, Elmdale, Kansas and Mrs. Elva Main, Emporia, Kansas; six sons; Don Allen of Nadusin, Ray Allen of Emporia, Ed Ellen (as listed in the article) of Clio, Iowa, Sterling Allen of Denver, Colo, Orlie Allen of Coffeyville, Kansas, and Paul Allen of Olpe, Kansas; 48 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, other relatives and many friends. Mrs. Allen and two sons preceded him in death.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Sidney Hawkins at the Christian Church at Madison, Saturday at 2 p.m. Burial was in the Blakely Cemetery.
