In 1971 the couple retired and moved to Belleville. Ida again enjoyed the church and transferred her membership to the Central Christian Church of Belleville and was active in the circles and quilting.
Ida suffered a cancerous surgery but still didn't let this shake her faith or her courageous smile and Ida and Bob enjoyed trips to Mission, Tesas in the winters. Ida Broke her first hip on one of these trips and suffered with another round with cancer and was flown home but her faith let her mend and return to the valley one more time. Ida broke another hip and a diabetic condition caused her to make her home at the Belleville Health Care center for almost a year. No matter what Ida was suffering from she gave encouragement to her husband, children, grandchildren and friends by her faith and lovely smile.
Ida and Robert were married 55 years, and celebrated their 50th anniversary with a reception at Central Christian Church, hosted by their children. They celebrated their 55th anniversary together at the Republic County Hospital.
