"x. Gershom5, b. in Medfield, 1745; m. 1778. Prudence Bullen, sister of Abigail, b. 1752; d. 1 Jan., 1815, age 62. He inherited a share of his father's farm; was a carpenter by trade, and an honest, industrious man, who often walked to Boston to work. He d. 10 Nov., 1834. He was undoubtedly a soldier of the Revolution, a private in Capt. Ephraim Cheney's Co., Col. J. Smith's Reg.; turned out April 19, 1775, and served 11 days; was drafted July 19, 1776, and paid a bounty; enlisted again Dec. 8, 1776, and was discharged Dec. 30th, also served 30 days in R. I., Oct. 1, 1777. He enlisted also. Aug. 3, 1780, in the 4th Suffolk Reg., and was dischaged Aug. 7."

Sabin Mann's (train band) co.; return of equipments made up to June 10, 1776; age, 31 yrs.; also, list of men raised to serve until Dec. 1, 1776, as reinforcement to Continental Army at Canada, agreeable to order of General Court of June 25 and July 11, 1776; reported drafted, but paid bounty in lieu of service; also, list of men drafted July 19, 1776, to assist in forming two regiments; also, Capt. Mann's co., Maj. Metcalf's regt.; enlisted Dec. 8, 1776; discharged Dec. 30, 1776; service, 23 days, on an alarm at Rhode Island; ordered to march to Court House, Providence, thence to Warwick Neck, R. I.; also, list of men who went on a secret expedition to Rhode Island for 30 days, from Oct. 1, 1777, agreeable to a warrant issued by Col. Hawes; reported drafted.
