HUDSON -- Doreen Pearl (Nichols) Andersen, 86, of Hudson, died Monday, May 1, 2006, at Beaumont of Northborough Nursing Home.
She was the wife of Vincent W. Andersen for 60 years. He died in 2004.
Born in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, daughter of the late Ralph and Dorothy (Hatfield) Nichols, she spent her formative years in Needham, graduating from Needham High School.
During World War II, she took business courses at Bentley College and was employed by the Carter Co. in Needham. After marrying, she lived in Southborough and then Framingham, where she was an active member of the former Park Street Baptist Church and volunteered as a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader.
After 14 years, she moved to Marshfield, where she and her husband continued to be involved with church activities at the Scituate Baptist Church, one of which was the happy times spent with friends as members of the Couples Club.
She was employed by Merchants Bank in Marshfield for many years and assisted her husband in his upholstery business by tending to the bookkeeping. They retired to Madison, N.H., where they once again became integral members of the local Madison Baptist Church and she was a member of the Philathia Club and volunteered as a Sunday school teacher and at the local food pantry.
She leaves her children and their spouses, Bonnie and Bernie Flood of Hudson, Eric Karl and Barbara Andersen of West Newbury, Nels and Jennie Andersen of Duxbury, and Roy Vincent and Linda Andersen of Madison, N.H.; two sisters, Polly Powell of Pemaquid Point, Maine, and Lila Hubbel of Vermillion, S.D.; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, May 4, from the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home (www.tighehamilton.com), 50 Central St., Hudson, with a funeral service, at 1 p.m., at the First Federated Church, Central Street, Hudson, officiated by the Rev. Sean Dunker-Bendigo.
Burial will be in Forestvale Cemetery, Hudson.
Visiting hours will be held today, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
