Theodore Stanley Chludzinski, 81, of 541 Williams Street, Pittsfield, died Friday, November 25, 2011 at Providence Care Center of Lenox. He had been in declining health for a number of years in his battle with Lewy Bodies Disease.
A native of Greenfield, he was born June 2, 1930 to Stanley and Rose (Cichy) Chludzinski. He attended Greenfield schools and graduated in 1952 from Hampden College of Pharmacy, which later became Mass. College of Pharmacy.
Ted was employed at various retail pharmacies in Franklin and Berkshire counties but was primarily a hospital pharmacist. He was initially employed at St. Luke's Hospital, which merged with Pittsfield General Hospital to become Berkshire Medical Center. He was employed by these two hospitals from 1962 until he retired in 1994. He was the director of pharmacy services at BMC for a number of years. He was a member of various pharmacy associations.
In his earlier years Ted enjoyed hunting and fishing. In later years, he was involved with gardening and his favorite pastime, walking. He was an avid New England Patriots and Red Sox fan.
Ted was an active member of the Catholic Church, having served as a Eucharistic minister at St. Agnes Church in Dalton. He was also a longtime member of St. Mark's Meditation group in Pittsfield.
He married Elizabeth (Betty) Shalley on May 25, 1963 in Great Barrington, and they celebrated over forty-eight years of marriage. Ted is also survived by his children, Stephen Chludzinski of Framingham; Dr. Paula Shaw and her husband Dr. David Shaw of Tacoma, Washington; Anne Law and her husband Christopher and their children Emily and William, all of Concord; and Michael Chludzinski and his wife Christina and their children Jackson and Campbell, all of Chelmsford. He is also survived by his sister, Gladys Markuson of Indian Orchard; and several nieces and nephews. Survivors also include sisters-in-law Patricia Boudreau and Maureen Yaffe and their husbands. He was predeceased by his brother Edward Chelsea.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at 9:00 a.m. from the DWYER FUNERAL HOME, 776 North Street, Pittsfield, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, celebrated by the Rev. Geoffrey J. Deeker, CSS, and concelebrated by the Rev. William F. Eckert.
Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Great Barrington.
Calling hours at the funeral home will be held on Monday, November 28, 2011 from 4:00-7:00 p.m.
