GREAT BARRINGTON Clara Ruth Bell Zinnermon, 94, of South Main in Great Barrington died Thursday, December 24, 2009 at Fairview Commons in Great Barrington.
Born August 2, 1915 in Atlantic City, N.J., she was the daughter of William and Ida Robinson Ballard. She attended Berringer High School in Newark, N.J.
Clara moved to Great Barrington in 1959 to work at the former Grey Fox Camp in New Marlborough. She worked in the Dietary Department at Fairview Hospital in Great Barrington for many years before retiring in 1985. She was a receptionist as well as a volunteer for Construct, Inc. in Great Barrington from 1989 until January 2009 when she reluctantly retired at the young age of 93. Clara was a kind and compassionate receptionist, assisting all those who crossed Construct's threshold on her watch.
Clara was a snappy dresser, she loved to get dressed up, wearing big colorful hats when she went out. She thoroughly enjoyed being in the company of her friends, especially if dancing were involved, and she never turned down an invitation to a party.
She was a longtime member of the Clinton A.M.E. Zion Church in Great Barrington. She enjoyed traveling with Sheffield Tours and Consaul Tours. She also enjoyed spending time at the Claire Teague Senior Center in Great Barrington and was a member of the James A. Modolo VFW in Great Barrington.
Clara is survived by two sons, Arnold Bell and Lawrence Ballard, along with six grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Walter Zinnermon who died September 27, 1992.
FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral service celebrating the life of the late Clara Bell Zinnermon will be held on Thursday, Dec. 31, 2009 at 12 p.m. at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME in Great Barrington conducted by Rev. Louise Williamson. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery in Great Barrington.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, Dec. 31, 2009 from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.
