SANFORD Norman W. Clough, Sr., 78, of Sanford, passed away peacefully in his sleep after a long illness on Feb. 20 at Goodall Hospital in Sanford.

He was born on Nov. 25, 1931, the son of Willis and Gertrude (Stuart) Clough in Dover, New Hampshire.

He had lived in South Berwick for many years and had attended Berwick Academy.

Norman had served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict. He had worked at the Portsmouth Naval Ship Yard as a nuclear rigger for over 30 years, retiring in 1992.

He was an avid outdoorsman who had a passion for hunting, fishing, camping, snowmobiling and gardening. He also enjoyed antiquing and collecting various "bargains" that required rigorous negotiating. He enjoyed passing his time tinkering with anything that he felt he could improve on or make more efficient.

He also loved the comfort and companionship of his two Labrador retrievers.

Norman was predeceased by his wife, Barbara A. (Mace), in 2006.

He is survived by his sons, Norman W. Clough, Jr., and his wife, Helen, of Herman, and James Clough, of Sanford; daughters, Louise Morse and her husband, Philip, of Raymond, and Brenda Clough, of Brunswick; brother, Russell Clough; 3 grandchildren, Corbett and Stefanie Morse, and Normandie Halvorson; and 3 great-grandchildren, Ethan Barker, Chase Lund and Aurelia Halvorson.

Norman was also predeceased by his son, Glenn Clough, and his sister, Helen McIntyre.

There are no calling hours or funeral services. At the request of Norman's family, burial in Woodlawn Cemetery in South Berwick will be private.

McIntire-McCooey Funeral Home, located at 301 Main Street in South Berwick, is entrusted with the arrangements.
